Job Summary

Reporting to the Families Coordinator, this person will work on the floor with the Children’s Team during the day to day operations of EastSiders Club guided by UGM’s vision, mission and values. This position involves working within the parameters as established by the local Child Care Licensing body and reporting to same as required from time to time. In this regard there will be some administrative work as well as working directly with children and their families within a culturally diverse community.  The Child Care Worker will work with the EastSider Team members to plan, develop, implement, and lead faith-based children’s program, as well as organize fieldtrips, seasonal activities, and special events for children and families throughout the year.  The primary role for the Child Care Worker is to assist in the creation of a well-rounded children’s program, selecting age-appropriate curriculum and activities that focus on the whole child, while working with the team for program execution in addition to fulfilling licensing administrative tasks.

You will frequently deal with clients in crisis situations, brought about by diverse problems.  There will be Outreach Workers and other Programs staff nearby to assist as required.

Skill Set

We are looking for a Christian individual who is passionate about providing exciting and educational after-school care for children, and support to their families in the Downtown Eastside.  A minimum of 2 years supervisory experience in child care, with School Age Certificate or equivalency (an ECE license is an asset) is required.  To be successful in this role, the candidate will have the proven ability to effectively deal with challenging behaviors and implement classroom management (Special Needs experience would be an asset), as well as experience working in a multi-ethnic and socially diverse context.  A valid Class 5 driver’s license is also required, with the ability and willingness to obtain a Class 4 drivers license.


This position will have unsupervised access to vulnerable adults or children.  Therefore, the successful candidate must provide a current criminal record check that includes a vulnerable sector search as a condition of employment.


This position requires the incumbent to drive a UGM vehicle.  Therefore, the successful candidate must submit a current driver’s abstract.
